Focusing on cabinet and furniture hardware under the “Panel Fittings for Every Enclosure” banner we have recently launched a new range of high quality fittings designed for areas where style and robust use are key to the situation. This would include retail/service environments, corporate offices, high quality equipment and public access facilities such as banks, libraries etc.

Hinging within the range is offered with a series of mild steel and brass butt hinges coupled with decorative and lift-off types. Specialist screen and presentation case designs provide for those infrequent but otherwise standard needs – for more frequent use there is also a selection of piano hinges in sizes from 25mm to 38mm flat widths and in materials of steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass. The range also covers highly finished pulls and knobs – complimented by inset mounted flush pulls for sliding doors and panels.

Here at FDB Panel Fittings we take very seriously the specialist areas of door and panel hardware – one such area is that which serves the fitment and operation of glass doors. The need for glass doors in 19” racks, office furniture and domestic cabinets is met by our new range of 304 and 316 grade stainless steel glass door hinges in satin finish, as well as polished, brass and bronze finishes – each installed without metal to glass contact.

Accompanying accessories include stainless steel flush door pulls in matching finishes and a selection of edge mounted silicone rubber sealing systems and polypropylene brush seals. Door weights of up to 80kg and thicknesses of 10mm to 20mm can be accommodated with standard hinges. Sealing accessories are available for 8mm to 20mm glass.

As market-leading panel fittings specialists we have taken a particular focus on an IP65 range of products for the tunnel/traffic control environment, where safety and reliability are of course paramount and primarily involves the use of high quality stainless steel ¼ turn locks, swinghandles and hinges with matching grade gaskets.
Tunel safety panel hardware
In contrast to other types of systems, tunnel safety systems must meet much more demanding reliability and safety requirements. Enabling people to rescue themselves in tunnel emergencies has highest priority, which is why new regulations mandate that escape routes and emergency facilities be placed closer together. It must be ensured that every emergency system always functions properly even after many years of service. 

Environmental influences such as dust, acids and high wind pressures from passing vehicles place high demands on the hinges and latching systems of emergency facilities. Traffic control technology has been moving increasingly toward high-tech systems designed specifically to optimize the flow of traffic. The latches used in such systems must reliably withstand environmental influences even after years of service.

The fittings in the FDB tunnel safety series are specified to guarantee resistance to corrosion and security against unauthorized access and are made of exceptionally high quality materials, primarily AISI 316, 316F and 316Ti with sealing performance of IP65 and IP66. When maintenance must be performed, they ensure that personnel can quickly access the system without being hampered by corroded parts.

Our recent introduction of the IP67 ref 7-081 quarter-turn lock is good news for cabinet suppliers to the food processing and clean room industry sectors. By virtue of its specialist SW13 insert and key arrangement the 7-081 minimises traps for dirt and biological material.

This is achieved by use of a polished surface and smoothing transition radii, as well as water and dust tight dual O-Rings giving protection to IP67. Design is further enhanced by manufacture in AISI 316L stainless steel and availability of a range of cams to accommodate varying door to frame depths.

Our new 54 series of hinges are designed with a view to optimising aesthetic style, lightness and strength. They are specifically intended for enclosures, 19 inch racks, cabinets, door panels in the specialist panel industry and for storage boxes, personal storage facilities, special machines etc where their curved style adds a certain design flair to the finished item.
Polyamide hinges
The 54 series hinges feature robust corrosion-resistant construction with 270° opening in a matt black finish, with symmetrical or assymmetrical format. Fitting options consist of countersunk screws or integral 304 grade stainless steel studs, with sizes of 30, 40, 50 and 60mm enabling tensile strength of 1200N to 5100N and shear between 850N to 4200N.

An elegant low profile IP65 lock in tough polyamide with a variety of inserts and cams available is just ideal for so many common applications, especially when it combines performance and looks at an exceptionally low price. Such an item is this new ¼ turn 1-092 which is assembled in seconds without the use of tools. Applications are expected to include electrical and electronic cabinets, as well as personal storage and access, especially for those types of equipment security where the environment is wet and otherwise stainless steel would probably be specified.

The 1-092 features just three basic components which simply clip together in seconds with injected TPE seals to prevent ingress of dust and water. The assembled unit is then quickly installed with backnut in either LH or RH orientation. Inserts available include square, triangular, slotted and double-bit key types, with 18mm to 28mm cams to cover the broad range of common requirements.

This new wet area coin lock is ideal for “pay for access – coin return” situations typical in swimming pool locker or group shower changing areas. It is ideally suited to personal lockers in these wet – or dry – “open access” environments where the coin lock can be specified to operate with a wide selection of coins or tokens and encourages the user to return their key and therefore release the locker for use by others.

The coin lock features include Euro-footprint for easy installation, full wet area testing, high quality brass pin tumbler barrel, coin return tray as standard and the ability to handle many types of coins or specific tokens. This innovative Pocket Lock has its primary use in areas where shared desking or lockers is required. The lock and key fit together to form a small pocket size “pod” which can be retained by the user and simply inserted into any vacant lock the following day. This maintains total flexibility whilst ensuring each user still has a secure storage or workspace during the day.

 The pocket lock is simple and easy to use offering total flexibility and ease of fitment with a range of back-end permanent mechanisms available. Typically the pocket lock can be used for shared desking with individual private drawers or for shared equipment or for personal lockers in communal spaces. The pocket lock is complimented with a catalogue of electrical cabinet locks, lift-off hinges, compression locks, zoned and sub-master locks, lock cams, multipoint locking systems and concealed hinges to suit industrial, commercial and front office situations.

IP65 compression locks like the our 1-077 are becoming ever more popular for applications requiring quick and reliable door closure without rattling, even when subjected to significant vibration. It is therefore ideal for vehicle on-board cabinets, panels, compartment doors, as well as gen-set packs, HVAC equipment or similar. Compression technology in this style is ideal for soft clamping and positive gasket pull-down to ensure positive sealing, especially on larger doors.
1-077 compression lock

 The 1-077 features IP65 sealing capability and a compression stroke of 6.5mm with fully closed dimensions of 22, 24, 28 or 38mm, dependant upon specification. A particular feature is its colour indicator for open/closed on the latch head, which provides instant recognition of the lock position. Door thicknesses of from 0.8mm to 22mm may be accommodated with LH or RH configurations as required.

The D-SNAP® range of panel assembly joiners, locks, hinges etc is designed to enable specialist cabinet builders to quickly fabricate housings with flat sheet into a robust structure. These new joiner components operate to fasten two or more sheet metal panels together by simply pressing and snapping the joiner into prepared panel cutouts. They are ideal for fastening cabinet components, e.g. removable top or base and for robust firm fixing of panels of similar or varying thickness, e.g. multi-component motor control cabinets.
D-SNAP joiners

The 1-044SL is intended for permanent assembly or joining of cabinets side by side whereas the 1-045SL is specifically for situations where one panel may require regular removal, e.g. for maintenance. The 1-046SL also allows one panel to be removed; it is the ideal solution where lighting panels for example have to be removed. The fixed side is fastened with screws enabling the joiner to be used with materials such as wood or for retro-fit installation where hole purchasing is not a possibility. D-SNAP® joiners will adjust to varying thicknesses of panel and use standard 30x10mm cutouts enabling rapid assembly after painting.
