DST fastener in stainless steel from FDB Panel Fittings

The D-Snap components system from DIRAK enables panel builders and installers to save time and money with click-together panels. Now this robust technology is available from us here at FDB Panel Fittings in a stainless steel format developed for applications that need to be permanently fixed on one side and easily removable on the other.

The first component offering is the DST fastener to suit 30×10 cutout so bringing DST assembly to cabinets for external environments. The fastener has a clamping range of 0.8-3mm with a pull-out force of up to 50N. Suitable for panels, hollow sections or complete housings, the fastener can be installed in a recessed position for flush mounting.

Traditional T handles now available online from FDB Panel Fittings

T handles – ( or Tee handles) are a traditional and comfortable way of operating latches with or without key locks. Generally a simple fit into a keyed hole and assembled with a back-nut to provide a cam or tab latch, they are available in zinc die, polyamide or stainless steel – many of them are compatible with multi point locking systems by using rod mechanisms to provide an additional two points of closure. This enhances security especially on large cabinet doors both in terms of sealing and preventing unauthorised opening – while still enabling single handed opening/closing.Round rods from FDB

T handles and Rod mechanisms can be found at our Online store – or please contact us to discuss your requirements.

FDB enclosure door gasket seals

Sealing of enclosures or cabinet doors is made simple with our range of clip-fit, push-fit and self-adhesive sections. These specialist profiles in EPDM, NBR, neoprene and PVC offer a quickly installed solution to maintaining good IP protection for panel builders, equipment manufacturers and vehicle constructors.

Clip-on hollow section gaskets enable inexpensive and effective protection from dust and water to be achieved with the simple expedient of pushing the section onto the frame profile or inner door edge. Construction is of EPDM or NBR (oil resistant) bonded onto a spring steel spine.

Sizes of FDB sealing strips range from 8mm to 13mm width sections and are available tested to UL standards – UL 94 HB. 50m coils are listed at the FDB Online store for ex-stock same-day despatch.

Other sections are designed to be retained within channels or for self-adhesion to painted surfaces, while edge protectors and window profiles with expanding filter sections enable simple edge covering and window installations for inspection of machine settings and processes.

Where electromagnetic compatibility is necessary variants are available to combine EMC with dust and water sealing.

Alongside these sections we have issued a Knowledge Base data sheet to make selection of seals and gaskets easier. This downloadable document (available at www.fdbonline.co.uk/collections/knowledge-base) covers the standard styles of self-gripping seals, edge protection and rectangular section gaskets. Additional information is provided on window seals, channel seals and round profiles, together with tabulated performance data for typical materials.

FDB magnetic catches

The team here admire the way that some manufacturers use materials to their customers’ advantage while keeping aesthetics in the forefront of their design – such a manufacturer is our sales partner Sugatsune whose range of neodymium magnetic catches stand out for their high performance and very neat design.

Back in the eighties the first neodymium magnets were devised by companies in Japan and America. They are enormously strong compared to ferrite magnets and have found themselves at the heart of many aspects of modern technology, from hard drives to hybrid and electric cars.

We like them because their density and strength allow incredibly thin magnetic catches to be produced like the MC159. At less than 3mm thick it is an easy to fit closure device which does not disrupt the integrity of your design. Perfect for sheet metal applications it can also be utilised in furniture production where the ample 4kg force will keep large doors closed. A lower strength version, the MC-158 has the same great looks but lesser strength at 1.5kg for those light weight applications, at the other end of the scale an 8kg force version has also recently been introduced.

But the focus is not just on looks – they have concentrated on sound too. Whilst the satisfying “Click” of a magnetic catch closing might reassure most, in some applications a quiet close is also desirable and “sealed catches” offer this feature. The MC-MS45 is covered in silicone rubber to deaden sound and the MC-JM45 is perfect for clean rooms, being completely sealed in polypropylene making them NSF approved.

For general use they have nickel plated versions and for more corrosion resistant latches like the MC-159SUS, they coat the magnet with an acrylic resin. For temperatures exceeding 80°C and up to a whopping 250°C there are catches like the MC-YN001 HP made from a Samarium Cobalt magnet.

Also worth a mention within this great range is the tiny 2.2mm thick MC-YN001 magnetic catch family. The MC-YN001 family is smaller and thinner and comes in nickel-plated or corrosion resistant stainless steel.

Magnetic catches are available on our online store.

specialist hinges from FDB

A hinge by any other name is not quite what one may expect – as it turns out. We are delighted that our online shop now includes a selection of spring hinges, friction hinges and torque hinges for the many and extensive specialist enclosures and panels used in industrial and office furniture applications.

Spring hinges in aluminium provide spring return with a stainless steel spring and an anodised finish in clear or black, while friction hinges offer an adjustable resistance which retains the door or panel in the desired position – friction is adjustable by hex key. Raw aluminium, clear or black anodised finishes are offered, along with screw or stud fixing.

Alternatively, stainless steel torque hinges offer a robust corrosion resistant solution to holding a lid or door in the desired position.
