vandal resistant

Latches from FDB Panel Fittings protect against vandalism and theftWe believe that protection of enclosures against theft of contents and general vandalism continues to grow as a major issue for design and installation engineers, especially in light of increasing copper prices where cables and other copper containing components are at risk when installed in vulnerable public access areas. This has been recognised for some time and is addressed by our recent introduction of 2 new anti-vandalism handles – 1 stainless steel swinghandle, and a zinc die pop-out T handle.

In particular, the new 7-061NT IP65 stainless steel swinghandle is tested in accordance with DIN 1630 and features very narrow gaps to minimise access for simple tools like screwdrivers. Other features include a protective housing which prevents the lock cylinder from being pushed through, and a covered front to protect the cylinder. Flush design also minimises leverage from tools and is coupled with tough AISI 316L stainless steel construction which makes it especially suitable for use in extremely harsh environments.

Other anti-vandalism handles compliment the 7-061NT, for example the novel 3-145 retractable T handle in black finished zinc die. This is designed for two separate locks, a keylock (with a great variety of choice) and/or a padlock eyelet for superior protection against unauthorised access.

Vandal resistant pignose bung lock in stainless steel from FDB Panel FittingsOur intriguingly named “pignose bung lock” may just be the ultimate in vandal-resistant quarter-turn locks for roadside cabinets or other publicly accessible cabinets that need to stay secure.

The “pignose bung” is secured into place with a two pronged key which ensures that the inner lock is protected; while the rugged AISI 303 stainless steel body and bung offer little in the way of opportunity for vandals. Legitimate access is simply gained by removing the bung with its special key and using a normal key to turn the recessed hexagonal insert-with-pin. Both 90° and 180° rotation options are available on the “pig nosed bung lock”.

FDB IP65 security swinghandlesWe are pleased to be able to provide greater security swinghandles for electrical/electronic/telco cabinets – these IP65 swinghandles are especially designed for applications where security is a significant concern, specifically in situations where cabinets are exposed and accessible to the general public and for outdoor installations exposed to the weather where IP65 dust/water sealing is important.

They feature electro-mechanical operation with anti-vandal design features and reinforced construction such that they comply with the European DIN V ENV 1630 Class II standard security test. This standard relates to the resistance level of doors against force using tools of class WK2, e.g. screwdrivers, pliers and wedges. Two versions are available, one with single lock cylinder and the other with dual cylinders to permit opening with either one of two keys.

Operation requires a power supply to the swinghandle or mechanical activation which may be provided under control of an existing central access management system, so enabling maintenance of an event log and update of access protocols. An LED indicates when the handle is ready to be opened and stays in that condition for 20 seconds with locked/unlocked status displayed on the LED.

Mechanical anti-vandal features include: exceptionally fine gaps/tolerances to prevent insertion of tools, reinforced edges, additional latch bolt, reinforced dust cover and availability of specialist 40 and 45mm profile lock cylinders.

Panel Fittings for Commercial Vehicles from the FDB Transport Industries rangeOur engineers have been aware that commercial vehicle manufacturers have special requirements for their components – for example specific hinges and lock inserts. Consequently we are now pleased to offer a range of transport related hardware with the durability to withstand high vibration environments with a high degree of vandal-resistance built-in. These are particularly applicable to utility vehicles such as agricultural harvesting machines, for example which are used in areas far removed from any repair shop or replacement parts, and must also meet a very tight harvesting schedule. Similarly, other mobile plant and construction vehicles where small problems can lead to long and expensive delays.

Typically the 12-600TR concealed hinge for cab doors and the 12-210TR compression latch exemplify the range which covers everything from quarter-turn locks/latches with a variety of specialist inserts, through lock rods, cams, slam latches, concealed and screw-on hinges, clip-on gaskets, recessed handles, bridge handles and SNAP-Joiners.

So whether the application is for fixed or mobile plant, on the farm or building site you can rely on us to have a welter of hardware to suit the application.
